Monthly update: September 2013

The month has passed and it's my favorite time, giving an update of my dividend portfolio. Generally markets have been stable. This month I haven't initiated any new positions although I did save up some money for a purchase next month, combined with the dividends.

Purchases
  • None
Dividends received
  • INTC: 63 shares @ $0.225 for a total of $14.18
  • WMT: 20 shares @ $0.47 for a total of $9.40
  • XOM: 17 shares @ $0.63 for a total of $10.71
  • BBL: 28 shares @ $1.18 for a total of $33.04
Total: $67.33 (~ €50 pre-tax)

Dividend increases
  • PM increased their dividend rate by 10.59% from $0.85 to $0.94 per quarter. This added almost $6 per year to my annual forward rate.
  • BBL increased their dividend rate by 3.51% from $1.14 to $1.18 per 6 months. This added almost $2 per year to my annual forward rate.
Portfolio value
Though it's not a pre-defined goal to archieve a certain amount of networth, I'd like to monitor this progress as well. The value of my portfolio is €10.400 (as of October 1).

Yearly forward dividend
My 12-month forward dividend rate is now €372. This is a small decrease since last month even though I received two dividend raises. The reason is that the EUR.USD has climbed to over 1.36, thereby reducing my dividends in Euro-currency.

  1. hey...i found we are in very similar situation. I'm just started to invest in the dividend grow stocks and its interesting to see how other doing...Invested similar amount as yours so far, but put money just in two stock - WFC and MCD ...would like to add more Europe stocks to lower dollar risk as I'm based in Europe, but struggling to find quality EU stock which pays dividends quarterly like yours reviewed UNA which probably will be my next purchase.

    1. Hi Centas, thanks for stopping by! You don't think investing these amounts in only two stocks is risky? WFC and MCD are obviously good companies to own but still... I am thinking about adding some RDS for my next purchase to increase my Euro-based dividends.

Do you keep a blog somewhere?

    2. Hi again ...just started my blog inspired by you guys but im still in very early stage...I used part of my cash for MCD and WFC still have few dollars left... just added PG to my fund. Regarding tax issues as non US person I filled W-8BEN form to avoid extra taxes. But not sure its the same form in your country. You can check some more info about it here: http://blogs.angloinfo.com/us-tax/2012/12/24/what-is-form-w-8ben-and-what-is-it-used-for/

  2. Just curious how you're planning to handle the tax issue you encounter when investing in US stocks as a Dutch citizen.

    1. Hi Jajaja, that's a good question! I am not entirely sure yet. Do you have experience on this topic? I believe tax rate for dividends is similar in the US (15%) as in the Netherlands. I'll have to do some research regarding this issue.

    2. You're right about the %, but you need to fill in the amount of divi's received in Box 3. So you need an substantial portfolio value to access that "feature". Different then the Dutch divi's received because thats Box 1.
Something you should think about carefully, imo before you start investing in US DG stocks.
With smaller portfolios its smarter to start with Dutch Stocks and mutual funds which can reinvest the divi's (For example Kempen Div funds) for you.
      Just my 2 cents.
      Good luck anyways!
