Monthly Update: July 2014

The month has passed and it's my favorite time, giving an update of my dividend portfolio. I've updated my benchmarks to include the total return indices, instead of only the stockprice indices. This seems like a better comparison.

IndicatorAs of 30-6As of 31-7% change
S&P 500 Total Return3.5493.503-1,3%
Dow Jones Industrials Total Return33.26432.786-1,4%
AEX GR1.1941.168-2,1%
USD.EUR0,73100,7446+1,9%
Portfolio value€ 18.404 € 18.629 +1,2%

All the stock markets lost ground in the last few trading days last week. USD.EUR rose almost 2% which made my dollar listed equities more valuable. And what did my portfolio do? It gained 1.2% which is great. Even though I am focused on dividend income and growth, It's always nice to see portfolio value increase. We'll have to see what the stock prices will do in the next month. That might be a good time to deposit money to start a new position.

Purchases
  • No purchases this month. I probably have enough funds for a new purchase late August or beginning of September.
Dividends received
  • KO: 37 shares @ $0.305 for a total of $11.29
  • BAX: 22 shares @ $0.52 for a total of $11.44
  • PM: 17 shares @ $0.94 for a total of $15.98
Total: around €24 after tax.

Dividend increases
  • OHI raised its quarterly dividend payment for the third time this year with $0.01 to $0.51 per share, an increase of 2% (6% this year). This raise adds slightly less than 2 to my yearly dividend income.
  • KMI raised its quarterly dividend with $0.01 to $0.43 per share, an increase of 2%. This raise adds slightly less than 2 to my yearly dividend income.
From next month on I will be able to see year-on-year increase in dividend income. I am curious to see what kind of progress I make.

Yearly forward dividend
My 12-month forward dividend rate is now €683, compared to €671 last month. This increase is due to the dividend raises by KMI and OHI, as well as a change in he EUR.USD-rate.

How was your month? What are your plans for the coming month? Maintain a cash position to use when the markets continue to move downward or use money to buy the dip since last week?

  3. €683 would be fab, I am on about £35 so far this year! Obviously, I have not long started, but you are doing great! Keep up the good work! By the way, I hope you are not only buying $ denominated stocks, I presume you're getting € ones as well?
